Calday Grange Grammar School

Ambition, Respect and Pride

    About Us

    Headteacher's Welcome

     Welcome and thank you for your interest in Calday Grange Grammar School.

    The school opened in 1636 and has served the community of Wirral since its inception. We currently offer a grammar school education to students from Wirral, Chester, North Wales and the Merseyside region. We are a popular school with approximately 900 boys in Years 7 to 11. Our Sixth Form, numbering over 400, welcomes male and female students from a variety of secondary schools. We offer twenty seven A Level subjects over a broad range of curriculum areas. The school achieves outstanding academic results.

    It is my belief that education is much more than ‘passing examinations’. Our aim is to support your child to develop into a young adult who can take their place in a rapidly changing world.  Our students should leave the school as individuals who are resilient, able to cope with anything that confronts them whilst maintaining a strong moral purpose, integrity and honesty.

     One of my favourite quotations is;

    “The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.”        Plutarch 46-127AD

    This is as true now as it was when it was written.

    Education is very much a partnership between parents, the school and students. Parents naturally expect a great deal from their school. The school has responsibility for the most precious commodity, your children.  Please contact the school and arrange a tour and see how the students at the school enjoy being part of a caring and supportive environment.

    The school mission statement is encapsulated in the three words;

    Ambition, Respect and Pride

    Our code of conduct is based around the notion of mutual respect. I have high expectations of the behaviour of students and staff.  We operate in an environment where students have respect for learning, their peers and staff.  Equally, our staff demonstrate their respect for students by delivering high quality lessons and treating them as individuals with differing needs.

    Parents are naturally ambitious for their children. The staff and governors of Calday Grange Grammar School share your ambition; we strive to develop people who aspire to the very highest ambitions; people who achieve the very highest academic results; people who excel, be it on the sports field, on the stage or in the classroom. Our students have masses of potential. It is our responsibility to support your and their ambition.

    I remind parents not to judge the school simply by looking at our Year 7 students. Reserve your judgement until your son or daughter has completed their education in our Sixth Form. It is a privilege to be associated with such an outstanding group of young people.

    Your child has the opportunity to join Calday Grange Grammar School, a unique institution, and earn the title of ‘Old Caldeian’.

    Tens of thousands of students have passed through the doors of Calday Grange Grammar School and we are proud of the achievements of all of them throughout the long history of the school, and I am proud to be the Headteacher of this school.
