Raising Participation Age
The government has changed the law so that from start of the 2013/14 academic year, all young people are required to continue in education or training.
Attendance Procedures at Calday
This is a brief outline of our attendance procedures. More information can be found in Section 7 of the Caldeian Handbook.
Register of Attendance
Registers are legal documents and we are required to record students’ absences as either authorised or unauthorised.
All students are required to register as present or absent with their form tutor twice daily: at 08:40 and at 15:20. Registers are also taken by teachers during each lesson.
If a student does not register or sign in late, and a reason for their absence has not been provided, then they will be recorded as being absent without authorisation and an explanation for this absence will be sought. We may contact parents of any student who is absent without our knowledge.
Signing In and Out
Students must sign in and out at the Administration Office if they need to be out of school for any reason between 09:00 and 15:35.
It is essential that all students sign in at the Administration Office if they arrive at school after morning registration has closed (09:00) if they were unable to register with their form tutor.
Illness and Student Absence Line
Parents should inform the school, as soon as possible on the first day of absence, and no later than 09:00, if a student will be absent due to illness. This should be done via the ‘Absence Line’ by dialling 0151 625 2727 and selecting Option 1, further instructions will follow.
Medical and Dental Appointments
If a student has a pre-arranged medical or dental appointment, a parental letter must be brought to the Administration Office before the day of the appointment, this enables us to mark the student’s register accordingly.
A member of staff will issue a signed ‘Authorised Absence Pass’ to the student. The pass must be kept by the student to be produced when signing out at the Administration Office on the day of the appointment and, if requested, when off the school premises.
Leave of Absence
If parents wish to take a student out of school for any reason other than a Medical or Dental appointment, an ‘Application for Leave of Absence’ form should be downloaded from the ‘Forms and Documents’ section of this website or a paper copy obtained from the Administration Office.
Upon completion, the form should be returned to the Student Services Office as soon as possible before the proposed absence. The Director of Student Services will review each individual request and parents will be promptly informed of the school’s decision.
