ENSURING SAFE, AFFORDABLE TRAVEL
Around 800 of our students use some form of public transport to get to Calday Grange Grammar School.
Responsibility for many of the school bus services rests with Merseytravel. However, we have been proactive in making the school accessible for students living in other areas. We work closely with local transport providers to ensure safe, reliable transport for students from Wallasey, Chester and beyond.
Staff are on duty to supervise students in the morning when they arrive at school, and again at the end of the day to ensure they safely board the correct bus.
For more information about the different options available, please contact us.
WALKING AND CYCLING
We encourage students to walk or cycle when possible. This allows students to gain independence and physical fitness levels are linked to positive health outcomes. We have a secure, covered bike rack at the front of school where students may leave their (locked) bicycles.
TRAVELLING BY CAR
If students are brought to school by car, we encourage parents to share when possible. Students should be dropped safely outside the school site.
There is a good network of public transport and train links to West Kirby. Trains from Birkenhead and Wallasey take approximately 30 minutes to reach the station in West Kirby. Public buses stop in West Kirby and Newton.
BUS TRAVEL FROM LOCAL AREAS
School buses are available from local areas and operate on a ‘pay as you go’ basis. These services stop at the school, either on Grammar School Lane or in Column Road. For more information please visit Buses Serving Schools at www.merseytravel.gov.uk or look at the timetable here.
BUS TRAVEL FROM WALLASEY, CHESTER AND NORTH WALES
Calday Grange Grammar School, in conjunction with West Kirby Grammar School, operate bus services for students of both schools who live in these areas.
The C Series service serves the Wallasey and New Brighton area and is operated by Cass Coaches using three double decker buses. The W Series, serves the North Wales, Chester and Ellesmere Port and is operated by Carvers Coaches using luxury coaches.
All buses and coaches have CCTV installed and are fitted with seat belts. Drivers are required to hold a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. These buses are routed according to the demand from families living around the Chester, Ellesmere Port and North Wales areas. Start times from these areas are around 07:30 and students are back at their bus stop in the afternoon at about 16:45/17:00.
Payment for an annual bus pass is done using a Direct Debit facility, either in full or by eight convenient monthly instalments. There is no charge for payments made by instalments. Passes are purchased via our website at www.calday.co.uk/buspass where you will also find timetables and more information about the routes.
