Ambition, Respect and Pride

    Academic

    Drama

All students study Drama in Years 7 and 8 and can choose the subject as an option for Years 9, 10 and 11, where it is a very popular choice with up to three sets of 25 students per year.  Drama and Theatre at A level (OCR) is also very popular at Sixth Form level.

Drama and Theatre Studies is taught primarily by two full time staff members, both of whom have come to teaching after careers working in professional theatre.  Teaching takes place in one purpose built drama studio with a lighting and sound rig, a well stocked store cupboard and full blackout facilities, as well as in a designated drama classroom.

There are many extra-curricular drama opportunities throughout the school year and the drama staff are responsible (alongside teachers of English, music and technology) for the school’s productions, of which there are up to three a year.  We are also responsible for numerous theatre visits, extra curricula opportunities at our local theatres and open performances of GCSE and A-level work.

We work closely with ‘Off the Ground Theatre’ who have a youth theatre based at the school and our students get the opportunity to perform professionally with them at The Unity Theatre, Liverpool or on their annual summer tours.

The school is a unique partner with the Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse Theatres, giving our students a range of benefits and support, including theatre tours, careers advice and opportunities to meet and work with professional theatre practitioners.
