Health & Safety

We take your health, safety and wellbeing very seriously at Calday. Students can only learn effectively and enjoy their learning and their experience at school if they are as healthy and happy as they can be.  To this end we provide guidance and a range of services to support your physical and emotional wellbeing.

First Aid

The school has a First Aid bay located in the Administration Office next to Reception. It is operated by qualified First Aiders and is fully equipped in case of injuries sustained at school.  There are also first aid kits around the school for minor injuries.

If you are ill in school you should go the First Aid bay where you will be assessed by a First Aider. If you need to go home we will call a parent to notify them and arrange your travel.

Health Service in School

This service enables you to take responsibility for your own health by making informed choices.

Services on offer at the clinic include weight management, smoking cessation, healthy lifestyle choices, advice about drugs and alcohol, pregnancy testing, contraceptive advice, chlamydia testing and emotional health and wellbeing.

The school Health Practitioner is based in E Block and she and a youth worker are available from 12:30pm to 1:30pm every Wednesday. A timetable is placed on the office door every week so you can gain access to her at other times if you need to.  This is a confidential service.

Safety in school

The Fire Alarm is a continuous siren. If you hear it:

  • Make your way quietly and calmly to the nearest exit and leave the building
  • Walk, do not run, to the Cages and line up with the rest of your Form for your register to be taken
  • Do not re-enter the building until official permission is given.

To help reduce the risk of accidents during busy periods, please walk on the left in corridors and on stairways.

Bags should not be left in corridors where they can cause a trip hazard. Instead, please use the bags rack or your locker.

Most people are trustworthy and honest, but sadly some are not. If you see a stranger around the school that looks suspicious - tell a member of staff.

  • Do not speak to strangers on the way to or from school.
  • Do not accept lifts from people you don't know.
  • When using the Internet, never give away information about yourself, or arrange to meet with someone you have met in a chat room.

Valuables and Property

We advise you not to bring valuable items into school with you.  Mobile phones, tablets etc. are your responsibility and the school cannot be held responsible if they get lost, stolen or damaged.

Mobile phones must not be used to make calls and receive messages in lessons.

If you name your property we can return it to you if it is found.  Please take any items of lost property you find to the Administration Office.
