Ambition, Respect and Pride

    About Us

    Interested in becoming a Governor?

Calday Grange Grammar School’s Governing Body comprises the Head Teacher, staff governors elected by school staff, Trust and Co-opted governors who are selected for their specific experience or skills, and Parent Governors who are elected by the parent body.

Governors play a vitally important role in raising school standards through three key roles:  working with the Headteacher to set the School’s strategic direction; ensuring accountability; and monitoring and evaluating school performance.
Vacancies for Governor positions arise in most years and the Governing Body welcomes interest from suitably motivated and committed individuals who believe they could make a positive difference and add real value to the School.

There are no particular qualifications or requirements. The ideal candidate brings commitment, energy and an enquiring mind. Specific skills or professional experience that can add real value to the school and its stakeholders are always welcome.

Most Governing Body business is undertaken in the preparation for, and during, monthly meetings held after school hours, but there are occasional additional duties, such as helping with Interview, Appeal or Disciplinary panels. Governors attend meetings of the Full Governing Body, but are also allocated to one or more sub-committees. At Calday Grange Grammar School these are: Curriculum & Student Welfare, Personnel & Appointments, Infrastructure & Governance, Finance. Where possible, Governors are placed in a committee that best suits their personal and professional backgrounds.

Governors are invited to help improve their understanding of the School by visiting specific departments or subjects about once per year. Governors are also encouraged to attend social, drama, music, CCF and other events at the school on a regular basis.

Being a member of a School’s Governing Body is immensely rewarding. It is an excellent way of getting to know the School much better, as well as improving knowledge and understanding of education, teaching and learning. It is satisfying to work alongside like-minded individuals on the Governing body, in the knowledge that you are influencing the School’s future development and direction.

If you are interested in becoming a Governor, please contact the Clerk to the Governors, Mrs Debbie Ellis, at the school address.
