Caroline Ashcroft (Chair of Governors)

Governor since 2004
Caroline was educated at Quarry Bank Comprehensive, Liverpool. She read Law at the University of Sheffield and the College of Law in Chester. She qualified as a Solicitor in 1995 and has worked in both the private and public sector, specialising in civil liberties and human rights cases.

Interests: Swimming, musical theatre and soap operas.

Mark Rodaway (Headteacher)

Governor since 2012
 Mark was educated at local secondary school on the Wirral before moving to Lancaster University to undertake a B.Ed. Hons in Technology education. He began his teaching career in 1984 at Duddeston Manor School in Birmingham before returning to the Wirral to teach at West Kirby Grammar School for Girls and St Anselm’s College.

In 2003 he joined The Mosslands School as Deputy Headteacher in 2003 and was appointed as Headteacher in January 2007.  He successfully led and managed the school until April 2011 when he was appointed Headteacher of Calday Grange Grammar School.

His leisure time is divided between spending time with his family, golf and cycling.  His daughter is an ex-Sixth Form Calday student who is now studying Civil Engineering at Leeds University.

Denis Mahony

Governor since 2012
Denis was educated at Rock Ferry High School and studied Metallurgy at the University of Surrey.  He also attained an MBA from Manchester Business School and a Diploma in Industrial Administration from Aston University. 

His business career includes managing high technology companies in the UK and USA, a Partner in Arthur Andersen and ownership of a number of businesses in the advisory sector.

His son was a student at Calday until 1996.  Denis is a keen sports enthusiast, particularly rugby football and a long time supporter of Caldy Club.

Dr Andy Bates (Parent Governor)

 Governor since April 2015
Andy was brought up in south Manchester and was educated at Manchester Grammar School, then studied Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge, graduating in 1983.  He was awarded a PhD in organic chemistry at the University of Nottingham, and then worked as a researcher in biochemistry in Leicester and at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, before coming to University of Liverpool as a lecturer and subsequently senior lecturer in the Institute of Integrative Biology and the School of Life Sciences.  He has sons in years 13, 11 and 7 at Calday.

Interests: commuting by bike and ferry, mountain walking, camping, driving children around.

Sheila Clark (Parent Governor)

Angela Cross (Trust Governor)

Governor since 2007
Angela was educated at West Kirby Grammar School for Girls. She trained as a Therapy Radiographer at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre qualifying in 1975 and has worked in London and Canada before returning to Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in 1983. In 1993 she moved into Higher education becoming a lecturer in Radiotherapy and Oncology  in the School of Health Sciences at the University of Liverpool.

Interests: local history, travel, walking, Cantemus at Calday choir.

Dan Meigh  (Staff Governor)

Governor since 2010
 Dan was educated at Calday prior to completing his degree in Chinese and Russian at Durham University and The Peoples’ University of China.  Before becoming Head of Drama and, subsequently, a Curriculum Co-ordinator Dan worked as Artistic & Youth Theatre Director for Wirral based theatre company Off the Ground.  He continues to work with a range of arts organisations and has directed over 120 youth theatre and professional performances not only for Off the Ground but also the Gateway Theatre, Dramart Productions (in Spain and Greece), The Chester Mystery Plays, various schools and community groups and The Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse Theatres where he was Youth Theatre Director.  He also lectures on Shakespeare in performance at Liverpool University.

Alan Q Roberts (Trust Governor)

Governor since 1998
Alan was educated at Calday Grange Grammar School and is a qualified accountant and has worked for a number North West based businesses. He first became involved with the Governing Body to assist in the setting up of the Swimming Pool Trust and sale of the School land replaced by the Sports fields in Caldy.

He is currently Finance Director and Company Secretary of an international AIM listed business based in Manchester. 
A keen supporter of local sport he is Treasurer of The Caldy Sports Club and Vice President of Caldy Rugby Club. Interests include Golf, cycling, DIY and gardening.

Martin Underwood (Parent Governor)

 Governor since April 2015

Martin was educated at the Wakeman School, Shrewsbury and Welbeck College prior to attending the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.  He spent nearly 25 years as an Army Officer before moving to West Kirby where he now runs his own specialist consultancy business.  He read Applied Science (BSc(Hons)) at the Royal Military College of Science, Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Strathclyde and Explosive Ordnance Engineering (MSc) at Cranfield University.

During his working life Martin has lived in Germany, Australia and the United States, as well as visiting many other countries for business and leisure.

Martin has two sons at Calday Grange Grammar School and a daughter at West Kirby Grammar School.

Interests include rugby (refereeing and spectating); hill-walking, skiing and other outdoor activities; history and international affairs.

Callum Youngson (Parent Governor)

Governor since 2012

Callum was educated at Auchmuty High School, Glenrothes, Fife and then studied Dentistry at Dundee University. After qualification he undertook postgraduate clinical training and research while working at Leeds University for over 20 years. He was appointed Professor/Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at Liverpool University in 2004 and has been Head of the School of Dentistry there since 2008. He has two sons, separated by 3 years, at CGGS. 

Interests: making longbows, supporting a losing national rugby team and reading.

John Wylie (Co-opted Governor)

 John was educated at Calday Grange Grammar School. Worked for several local companies, became self-employed at 23 and started a family business in West Kirby. Has been Chair of Governors and Directors at a local Charity School for the past 12 years. Previously Chair of Governors at a local Primary School for 10 years. Seven of his family have been educated at Calday.

Interests: Sport, theatre and cinema, travelling, but mainly family.
